The Asymmetry of Security

One of the most problematic aspects of security, anonymity and privacy in the current day and age is that it is fragile. What I mean with this is that it is very easy to break it. So the fundamental asymmetry is that you have to protect your security every time - but an attacker only has to breach your security once. The same is true for anonymity and privacy. If you make a single mistake, that could be the only thing necessary. Looking back at the history of how many hackers/crackers have been arrested, people such as Sabu, Dread Pirate Roberts and many others, you can trace back their failures to one or a few small mistakes.

Forgetting to use Tor one single time when connecting to IRC? Failure. Pasting a link into to the wrong window? Failure.

Constant vigilance is necessary. It might be the case that you have already broken your security or anonymity. If so, what do you do? You should have a contingency plan for an eventuality like this. The first step is to stop whatever you're doing and change things up.
